Ernest Richard Runice, 50, of DeSoto, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008. Ernest Richard Runice, 50, of DeSoto, died suddenly of a heart attack, Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008 at his home. Ernie was born on April 22, 1958 in Viroqua, WI to Obed Ernest and Mary Joyce (Simpson) Runice. He married Tina Curll on June 3, 1983 and later divorced. He did farm work and was employed for many years doing masonry work as an operator/tender in Arizona and later for Rusty Berger Masonry of Waukon, IA. Ernie enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader and sports fan. He was a loving and supportive father, grandfather, son, brother and friend who will be missed by many including his canine pal, Sparky. Ernie is survived by his daughter, Jenny (Joe Johnson)and granddaughter, Jordyn of Michigan; two sons: Jesse Ernest (Brittany) of DeSoto and Jason of Colorado; his mother and step-father, Mary Joyce and Leon Crum of DeSoto; a sister, Michalia; a brother, Jeff (Brenda Hass) of DeSoto and life-long friend, Tina Runice of Newton Valley. He was preceded in death by his father, Obed; paternal grandparents, Richard "Clarence" and Anna Runice; and maternal grandparents, Richard "Chink" and Jeneice Simpson. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2008 from 2 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 320 Main (Hwy 82) DeSoto. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of DeSoto is serving the family.
