Esther Stokke

Esther Stokke, age 84 of Victory, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 9, 2006. Esther was born July 3, 1921 in Springville, WI to Victor and Bertha (Hanson) Berg. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1940. She married Earl Stokke in 1948. He died in 1973. In addition to dairy farming, she worked for the Vernon County Treasurers Office and as a secretary for the Vernon County Unit on Aging. She also served as the Wheatland Town Clerk for 31 years, and was a columnist for the Broadcaster for 45 years. She was very faithful to her church, the WELCA and the Hope Circle holding various leadership positions through the years. She participated in the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.) and will be remembered by many friends for her bright mind, quick wit, busy hands, and strong spirit. Esther is survived by two children: Ronald (Dorothy Berra) and Donald (Julie Barbian); her grandchildren: Chris, Ben, Donald (Teresa), Brian and his fianc Jaclyn; and her great-grandchildren, Jessica, Mylissa, Katelyn, and Mason. She is further survived by her siblings: Orbin, Ardis Severson, Stanley, Clarence, Donald, Francis Dahlke, and Alvin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, and two daughters: Kathryn and Karan, and 1 brother, Selmer Berg. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the DeSoto Lutheran Church. Pastor Libby Howe will officiate with burial in the DeSoto Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 320 Main Street DeSoto and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. The family requests memorials to: the DeSoto Lutheran Church Building Fund or Vernon Memorial Hospice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of DeSoto is serving the family.
