Ethel V. Munson

Ethel V. Munson, age 96, of Viroqua, formerly of La Farge, died Monday June 3, 2013. She was born June 17, 1916 to Frank and Maude (Burcham) Smith. She was united in marriage to Marvin Munson on October 22, 1935, and together they farmed near La Farge, Ontario, and Viola until they purchased Marvins parents farm in 1951. Ethel enjoyed gardening and was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church at Sandhill where she was still a member. In 1980 Ethel and Marvin sold their farm and moved to La Farge. After over 50 years of marriage Marvin died in 1986. She continued to live in La Farge until moving to Bethel Birchwood in 1993, Bethel Maplewood in 2006, and then to the Bethel Home in 2011. She is survived by her two daughters: Sherrill Munson of La Crosse and Sandra (Tom) Smith of Stoddard; a grandson Scott Smith of Oregon, WI; three great grandchildren: Asher, Boden, and Kya Smith; one sister, Garnet Winchell of Wonewoc; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Munson of La Farge, Ruth Munson of Minneapolis and Bea Opsahl of Mundelein, IL; nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, and siblings: Carol Hutchens, Errol Smith, Bertrand Smith, Mildred Klein, Elva Thomas, Letha Hoke, Raymond Smith, Lillian Dobbs, Welma Fry, and Kenneth Smith. Blessed be our memory of Ethel Munson. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church at Sandhill, rural La Farge, with a burial to follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Gary Daines will officiate. In lieu of flowers or plants memorials may be sent to the Bethel Home or a charity of the donors choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
