Eugene "Gene" Simonson, 82, died on Thursday December 17, 2009. Eugene "Gene" Simonson, 82, passed away on Thursday December 17, 2009 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua after a brief illness.Gene was born December 29, 1926 in Ettrick, Wisconsin to parents Edward and Mabel (Swenson) Simonson. He is survived by his wife Ruby of forty years; three sons: James (Laura) Hines, Gary Simonson, and Cody Carlson, daughter Jill (Brian) Weigel; and sister Bernice (Carol) Haag, and many beloved nieces and nephews. A husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Stanley and sister Betty. Genes lifelong passion and career was devoted to selling automobiles in Viroqua for over forty years. When Gene was not selling cars, his skills were devoted to auto body and detailing work out of his home in Viroqua. He loved to spend time with his many friends, either at one of the local car dealerships or at the repair garage. His never ending kindness and generosity was felt by all that knew or met Gene. Even the stray cats and dogs that made their way to his home were greeted with love and a warm place to make their home.Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday December 22, 2009 at United Methodist Church, Viroqua.The family would like to thank the staff at both Vernon Memorial Hospital and Vernon Manor for the care provided to Gene.
