Eugene M. Engh, age76 of Viroqua, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at his home. Eugene M. Engh, age76 of Viroqua, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 21, 1931 in rural Westby to Norman and Alice (Sagmoen) Engh. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Vang Lutheran Church. He attended rural schools and was married on November 10, 1951 to Maebelle Buros at the Lutheran parsonage by Rev. Peder Nordsletten. Maebelle and Eugene farmed north of Viroqua. He dearly loved the land and animals and watching his crops grow. He was also an avid tractor puller. He was a 36 year member of National Farmers Organization, serving as County Treasurer for 3 years and N.F.O. Meat Board Chairman for 3 years. He was a supervisor for the Town of Viroqua and was Chairman of the Town of Viroqua for 28 years. He served 9 years as a trustee of Vernon Manor, 3 years as trustee for the church board as well as many hours volunteering in different ways. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man who was willing to lend a helping hand and couldnt say no when it came to helping someone out. We were all blessed to know him! He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn (Duane) Ellefson; two sons, Steven (Linda) and Danny (Penny), all of Viroqua; 10 grandchildren: Paul (Amy) Ellefson, Laura (Steve) Leatherberry, Amy (Dale) Gabrielson, Wendy Hirschfield (special friend, Dan), Shawn (Phoebe) Engh, Jennifer (Mitchell) Harris, Jady (Bonnie) Inman and Tami (Jon) Saleska, Laci Eklov (Mike Olson) and Mindi Eklov; 24 great-grandchildren: Ashley, Cole, Kaila, Lexi, Dillon, Caden, Karlee, Autumn, Brandon, Robert, Patricia, Amanda, Noah, Steven, Taylor, Alexandra, Alexis, Cameron, Alexander, Quinton, Tiffany, Gregory, Vinnie and Joseph; very special friend, Lorraine Coleman and her children: Donna (Jerry) Rossing, Danny (Penny) Coleman, David (Jill) Coleman and Greg (Lori) McComb; brother, Maynard (Char) Engh; sister, Janice (Orvis) Primmer; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends; and "mans best friend: Otis". In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Maebelle on September 6, 2005; brother LaVerne Engh and sister, Beverly Zitzner. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Country Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Westby. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Friends may also call on Tuesday after 12:30 p.m. at the church. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
