Eugene Allen Peltier Sr.

Eugene Allen Peltier Sr., 91, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, Wisconsin. Eugene was born July 28, 1934, in the Town of Holloway, Taylor County, Wisconsin, to Cyril and Ella Peltier. He grew up in rural Medford, Wisconsin, where he attended school and helped his father homestead their farm. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, and during a hospital stay met Carol Jenks, who was working as a nurse. They became engaged on a snowy New Year’s Eve and were married on August 31, 1959. They lived in Milwaukee, where Eugene built their home and they began raising their three children.

In 1972, the family moved to the Retreat area and began farming. In 1976, they relocated to a farm in rural Viroqua, where they lived for many years while tending a herd of Jersey cattle. In later years, Eugene continued to enjoy visiting the farm, caring for the property, sitting quietly, and reminiscing about his farming days.

Eugene was a man of many talents. He enjoyed telling life stories, making friends, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a member of the local Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Throughout his life, Eugene worked as an industrial machinist, built his family a home, farmed, and owned and operated several businesses. Alongside Carol, they raised their three children. After retirement, Eugene and Carol traveled throughout the country and enjoyed seeing the sights along the way. Due to health concerns, they spent six years in the warmth of New Mexico before returning to Wisconsin in 2016 to be closer to family.

Eugene was a kind and giving person and passed these qualities, along with his sharp wit and humor, on to his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed spending time with family playing dominoes, fishing, helping with projects, and sharing stories from his years of travel.

Eugene is survived by his brother, Carl Peltier of Racine, Wisconsin; his children, Allen (Sandra) Peltier of Viroqua, Wisconsin, Laura (Chris) Guillaudeu of Hillsboro, Virginia, and Dan (Vicki) Peltier of Sparta, Wisconsin; grandchildren Eliza (Charles) Kakanakou, Sarah Peltier, Jordan (James) Sarasien, Taran (Megan) Peltier, Robert Guillaudeu, and Sabrina Guillaudeu; and great-grandchildren Charlotte and Sonia Kakanakou, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Carol Peltier; his parents, Cyril and Ella Peltier; and his brothers, Leroy, Wayne, Earl, and Sanford Peltier.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Norseland Nursing Home for the kindness and care shown to Eugene during his stay.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, January 9, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Vosseteig Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St., Viroqua, Wisconsin.
