Eva M. Phillips, age 92 of Viola, died January 5, 2007 Eva M. Phillips, age 92 of Viola, died January 5, 2007 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. She was born in Jefferson Township, Vernon County, WI on January 21, 1914 to Fred and Barbara (Zogg) Knower. On December 28, 1935 she married Walter Phillips and they had two sons, Donald and LaVerne. Eva was a rural school teacher briefly before her sons were born. She then chose to be a full-time loving mother and housewife and was an excellent cook and seamstress. As her sons grew older, she worked as a cook at the high school in Viola. She was a member of the Viola United Methodist Church and an active member of the UM Ladies Sarah Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Eva is survived by her two loving sons, Donald (Renee) of Lodi and LaVerne (Alice) of Viola; five grandchildren: Rena Frings, Ross (Julie) Phillips, Jill (Neil) Michaelson, Ann Phillips and Craig Phillips; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 2000, her beloved sister, Ruth (Jack) Staley of Oconomowoc, and her brother Roy (Leona) Knower of rural Ferryville. Eva was a kind and gentle spirit who will be missed immensely by all who knew her. After a long battle with Alzheimers, she is at peace in heaven with the Lord. Evas sons wish to express their sincere appreciation for the compassionate concern and wonderful care given by the staff of the Bethel Home. Friends may call on Monday, January 8, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Homes Henthorn Memorial Center, 129 S. Main (Hwy 56) in Viola. A prayer service, with Pastor Doris Clark officiating, will be at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Viola Cemetery at a later date. The family requests memorials be directed to the Bethel Home or the organization of the donors choice. The Vosseteig Funeral Homes Henthorn Memorial Center is assisting the family.
