Evaline McCormick, a loving, generous, and faith-filled woman, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2023, just three days shy of her 94th birthday. Born on April 17, 1929, in Darlington, WI, Evaline was a lifelong resident of the area and made a lasting impact on her community.
A proud graduate of Darlington High School, Evaline dedicated her life to her family and their farm. As a devoted housewife, she worked tirelessly alongside her husband to ensure the success of their family farm. Her strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to her family were evident in everything she did.
Evaline's generosity extended beyond her family, as she was actively involved in various associations throughout her life. Her love for her community and desire to give back inspired her to volunteer her time and talents in numerous ways. One of her most cherished roles was serving as a catechism teacher, sharing her deep faith with the next generation.
An avid gardener, Evaline found great joy in tending to her beautiful flower beds and bountiful vegetable gardens. She had a special connection with nature and loved watching the birds that frequented her yard. Her love for the outdoors was evident in the care she took to create a welcoming and serene environment for her family and friends to enjoy.
Evaline's love for baking was well-known throughout her community, as she generously shared her delicious creations with others. She was particularly skilled at making wedding cakes, and it was her great pleasure to create these beautiful and tasty centerpieces for the weddings of her nieces and nephews. Her love for baking extended to other areas of her life, as she was always eager to try new recipes and share her culinary discoveries with others.
A talented seamstress, Evaline took great pride in her sewing abilities. She created beautiful clothing and quilts for her family, as well as for those in need. Her attention to detail and commitment to quality were evident in every stitch, and her creations were cherished by all who received them.
Evaline was also a master of canning, preserving the fruits of her labor for her family to enjoy throughout the year. Her shelves were always stocked with jars of her delicious homemade jams, jellies, and pickles. This skill not only provided her family with nutritious and delicious food but also served as a testament to her resourcefulness and dedication to sustainability.
A voracious reader, Evaline was never without a book in hand. Her love for literature spanned a wide range of genres, and she was always eager to share her latest literary find with friends and family. Her passion for reading not only provided her with countless hours of enjoyment but also served as a means of connecting with others and fostering a love for the written word in those around her.
Evaline's faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she lived her beliefs every day. Her unwavering commitment to her faith and her community was an inspiration to all who knew her. Survivors include her children, Teresa McCormick, Diana McCormick, and Bernadette (Mike) Bergmann; one sister, Sharon “Kay” (Keith) Nichols; her grandchildren, John (Lisa) Young, Jennifer Meyer, Raquel (Kris Hamilton) Meyer, Crystal (Garrett Johnson) Gleichauf, Kyle Gleichauf; 9 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Sheldon Hendrickson; sister-in-law, Wauneta Lancaster; special nephew, Bill McCormick; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Evaline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John C. McCormick; her daughter, Patricia (Alan) Lovstad; her siblings, Homer (Catherine), Mildred (Don), Harlan (Mary), Russell (Dorothy), Grace (Hank), Shelby (Bill), Dick, Gary, Shirley; and son-in-law, Jim Young.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Philip Cemetery Fund or the St. Philip Council of Catholic Women.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023, at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Rolling Ground. Fr. Tom Huff will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Evaline will be laid to rest at the church cemetery. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
