Evelyn J Helgerson, 90, of Mt. Sterling, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Evelyn Joyce Helgerson, 90, of Mt. Sterling passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home. She was born on June 6, 1924 to Esther (Olson) and Ole Erickson. She graduated from Gays Mills High School and worked her first job in Madison for several years. She married Andrew Helgerson March 24, 1946 and worked on the family dairy farm in Utica Township for 46 years. They were married for 54 years. She also enjoyed raising their vegetable garden, manicuring the lawn, landscaping with trees and decorating the house. Her specialties in the kitchen were making lefse and Norwegian pastries such as rosettas, krumkake and kringla. After retiring, they moved to Mt. Sterling and winters were enjoyed in Donna, Texas for 14 years where she learned to swim and enjoyed activities with friends. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church and involved In Ladies Aid and Circle. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; son, Jan; and daughter, Julie Ann. She is survived by one brother, Arnold (Caroline) Erickson of Madison; daughter, Peggy Knoble of Citrus Heights, CA; son, Nick (Sandi) Helgerson of Zwingle, IA; grandsons: Andrew Helgerson of Zwingle, IA, and Eric and Aren Helgerson of Dubuque, IA; grandson, Casey (Lindsay) Knoble of Onalaska, WI; three great-grandchildren: Myles, Rylan, and Kalli Knoble, and they affectionately called her 'Grandma Cool Whip'. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 at Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church. Pastor Nile Sandeen will officiate with burial to follow in the Mt. Sterling Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences may be offered at www.vossFH.com The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Gays Mills is serving the family.
