Evelyn L. Henry, 86, of Viroqua died Friday, June 11, 2010. Evelyn L. Henry, age 86 of Viroqua, died Friday, June 11, 2010. She was born in Johnstown, PA on August 28, 1923 to Aloysious and Ethyll (Nichols) Mattes. On August 13, 1943 she married David L. Henry. They moved to Viroqua where they farmed on Pleasant Ridge and raised their 10 children. Evelyn was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Viroqua where she was the first female member of the choir. She was also a member of St. Marys Altar Society and VFW Auxiliary. In 1981 David and Evelyn moved into Viroqua. She enjoyed her family a great deal and also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, playing cards, puzzle books, and the Green Bay Packers. Evelyn was famous for her chicken and noodles and homemade bread. She was faithful in corresponding with her family and friends. Evelyn is survived by her children: Ethyll (Larry) Call of Castle Rock, CO, Peg (Larry) Leahy of Thomasville, NC, David (Cindy) Henry of Good Year, AZ, Frank Henry of Rockford, IL, Don (Mary) Henry of Viroqua, Mike (Jeannie) Henry of Viroqua, Ella Raasch of Coon Valley, daughter-in-law, Lori Henry of Viroqua; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Marion) Mattes of Pennsylvania; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, David; daughter Cathie Skrede; sons, John "Jack" and Tom Henry; a grandson, Cory Henry; and great-granddaughter, Alexandria. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Fred and Ella Henry; brothers, Frank and Albert Mattes; and a sister, Agnes Marie Stewart. Blessed be our memory of Evelyn L. Henry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Viroqua. Father Emmanuel Famiyeh will celebrate the Mass with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua and on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the St. Marys Choir or the Alzheimers (LaCrosse Chapter: 115 Fifth Avenue South, Suite 421 La Crosse, WI 54601) The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
