Floyd Elton Deaver

September 22, 1915 — September 11, 2006

Floyd Elton Deaver, age 90, died peacefully September 11, 2006 at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born September 22, 1915 near Viroqua, Wis. to John and Clara (Borrison) Deaver. He married Velma Talmage Stantorf on September 2, 1938 at the Westby Coon Prairie Parsonage. They lived in the Avalanche and Bishop Branch area. Floyd worked as a carpenter with his father, and in later years ran his own welding shop: He could fix or make anything. In 1966, he and Velma moved to Anchorage where he worked for Western Offshore Drilling and Parker Drilling on various oil platforms until he retired in 1983. He loved being retired and flatly refused to get "a part time job". Hunting and fishing kept him busy. He was a special Dad, a great fishing buddy and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his four children: Terry (wife Gloria), and Gary (wife Carol), both of Viroqua, Nancy Bernard and Ellen Hyder (husband Doug), both of Anchorage; seven grandchildren: Terry Deaver, Jr, Troy Deaver, Judd Deaver, Laura Creasey, Adam Creasey, Tom Creasey and Scott George: seven great grandchildren: Thomas Creasey, Jocelyn Deaver, Lauren Deaver, Mason Deaver, Maverick Deaver, Tori Deaver, and Tayler Deaver; his brother Earl Deaver and his sister, Lucille Hetletvedt and her husband Ray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma on December 29, 1992; granddaughter, Emily Ann Deaver; great-grandson, Keith Deaver; and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Deaver. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Hallemeier will officiate with burial in the Brush Hollow Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
