Fred "Bud" Eick Jr.

December 12, 1939 — September 27, 2024

Fred Arthur "Bud" Eick Jr., aged 84, of rural Ontario, WI, passed away in a farming accident on September 27, 2024. Born on December 12, 1939, in Denver, Iowa, to the late Fredrick Henry Eick Sr. and Leota Minnie Niemeyer, Fred was a man whose life was characterized by his independent spirit, adventurous heart, and durability.

Fred grew up in Denver, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1958. Shortly after, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Reserves. In June of 1961, he married Mary Maloy, and together they welcomed four children into the world. Although their paths later diverged, Fred's commitment to his family never wavered.

After his military service, Fred returned to his roots in agriculture, beginning a career in farming that would lay the foundation for his life's work. His love for the open road eventually led him to a second career as a truck driver, Fred's work ethic and dedication to providing for his family were unwavering, and he instilled these values in his children.

Fred had a profound love of horses, which was more than a hobby—it was a reflection of his adventurous, bold spirit. Fred was a distinguished, longtime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. His interest in aviation lead to earning his pilot's license, allowing him to experience the freedom of the skies.

He is survived by his children, Jeff (Mary Lou) Eick of Denver, CO, Linda (Bryan) Call of Westby, Betty (Eric) Olson of La Crosse, and Kathy (David) Clark of Westby. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Ted, Jason (Cassandra), Jennifer, Josh (Christina), Justin (Rachel), Brittany (Matthew), Taylor, Kyle (Angie), and Ryan, as well as his great-grandchildren, Waylon, Olivia, Luella, Kolton, Chase, Miles, and Noah. Fred also leaves behind his longtime significant other, Marijean Sebranek, who brought him companionship for 38 years and a coworker in farming in her son, Jeremy Hutchison. Jeremy and his grandson Jason were crucial partners in maintaining his beloved farm and livestock.

Fred is further survived by his siblings, Lavonne Barber, Roger (Carol) Eick, Ervin (Tracy) Eick, Shirley (Mike) Mahan, Mervin (Pete) Eick, Debra (Raymond) Mahan, and Daniel Eick. His extended family includes many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceding Fred in death were his parents and two brothers, Larry and Carl Eick.

Fred's life was a testament to the power perseverance and the importance of forging one's path. He always lived life on his terms.
