Fred J. Olson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2024, at Vernon Memorial Hospital, at the age of 84. Born on February 5, 1940, in Readstown to Osmond and Onah (Schoville) Olson. Fred married Martha Binger on July 16, 1988, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Soldiers Grove. Fred's life was a testament to his loving, thoughtful, and kind nature, which touched the lives of all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Readstown High School, class of 1958, Fred furthered his education at U.W. Platteville, where he studied Agriculture Sciences. His passion for agriculture led him back to his roots, where he worked diligently on the family farm in Readstown after a brief period of work in Beloit. Fred's dedication to his work was only matched by his commitment to his family and community.
Fred's life was filled with love and laughter, shared with his beloved wife, Martha, and their children, Hayley (Kevin) Martin, Wendy (Russell) Bantz, DeLon (Normina) Olson, Andy (Beth) Olson, and Gretchen (Jeff) Hanson. His great-grandchildren, Landon, Hudson, Bohdie, Oakley, Oaklee, Iylee, Ella, Dylan, Henry, and Archie, brought immense joy to his later years. Fred is also survived by his sister, Delores Randall. Further survived by five sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Patricia Sullivan, Kathaleen Schultz, and Doug Olson; two great-grandchildren, Bronwyn Babb and Ethan Brint; and his brother-in-law, Paul Randall and Jim Sullivan. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those he has left behind.

Fred's interests were as diverse as they were engaging. He took joy in traveling to Arizona during the winter months, where he relished the warmth and the company of friends. An avid 4-wheeler, he explored the beauty of nature with enthusiasm. Fred never missed an opportunity to share a good joke, ensuring those around him were always smiling. His breakfast buddies will fondly remember the laughter and camaraderie that were staples of their morning gatherings.
