Freda L. Vance

Freda L. Vance, 95 of Viroqua died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 Freda L. Vance, 95, of Viroqua died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua. She resided at Vernon Manor and grew up in the Avalanche area and attended Avalanche School. Freda was on her own at the age of 14 and worked for families as live-in-help. On December 6, 1933 she married Julius K. Small and he died shortly after returning from the service. On June 15, 1949 she was united in marriage to William F. Vance in Viroqua and he died in 1972. They lived in Viroqua and Freda was active in The Rebecca Lodge, The Relief Corp., Homemakers and Red Cross Blood Drive. She was the superintendent of the baking and canning at the Vernon County Fair. Freda was generous and was willing to volunteer and help where needed. She is survived by her son, Keith (Kay) Vance; one grandson, Max; four step grandchildren: Kyle Vance, Jeana Vance, John Vance and Roberta "Tim" Vance; siblings: Irene Radiloff, Floyd Fredrickson, Bill (Beverly) Fredrickson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; one step son, Eugene Vance in 1973; siblings: Mildred Mason, Eula Bolen, Dan Fredrickson and Kenneth Fredrickson; step granddaughter, Doris Riley; and brother-in-law Virgil Radloff. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St. (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Pastor Kathryn Ingbritson officiated with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends called from 12:00 noon until time of service. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
