Listen to Obituary

Fred Joseph Zitzner, age 72 of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, after a very courageous battle with cancer. Fred was born in Viroqua on October 7, 1953, to LaVern and Maurine (Hanson) Zitzner. Throughout his education, Fred attended Viroqua Area Schools and later met Vicky Kluesner. Fred and Vicky were married on February 17, 1979, and were blessed with 46 years of love, and laughter. Fred was an extremely hard worker. He spent many years farming, raising tobacco and later began driving milk truck, dump truck and semi. After selling the farm, Fred started his own carpentry and landscaping business. Fred was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, neighbors and even strangers. He was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone. Family was everything to Fred. He and Vicky were blessed with 3 children and 5 grandchildren. One of his favorite things to do was to go camping. He spent every summer making memories with his family at the campground where they would swim, fish and go for golf cart rides. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. They meant the world to him. He enjoyed watching them play volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball. In his downtime, Fred also enjoyed cheering on the Brewers, the Badgers and the Packers.

Fred will be greatly missed by his wife Vicky; his 3 children, Kyle (Melanie) Zitzner, Rachel (Kevin) Harris and Cody (Jean) Zitzner; 5 grandchildren, Kennedy and Merrick Zitzner, Macie and Aubree Harris and Ivy Zitzner; 1 sister, Judy (Alan) Christianson; 1 brother, Tim Zitzner; 3 sisters in law, Carol Zitzner, Nancy (Dean) Dieckman, and Cheryl (Tim) Spaeth and 2 brothers in law, Jim Vikemyr and David (Elizabeth) Kluesner along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents LaVern and Maurine (Hanson) Zitzner; his brother Jim Zitzner; his sister Sara Vikemyr; his nephew Seth Vikemyr; his father and mother-in-law, Bob and Judy Kluesner; and his niece Tara Mumm Hollander.
