Gary Buros

Gary Gene Buros, age 67, of Avalanche, WI, died Saturday, January 14, 2017. He was born to Blaine and Eloise (Bergh) on November 29, 1949 in the township of Viroqua, Vernon County, WI. During his school years he was very active in the Junior Ski Jumping Club. He had received many trophies. He was also on the Westby High School football team. He graduated from Westby High School in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from August 1969 until February 1972. He had served 18 months in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic and a gunner. He received The Bronze Star and The Air Medal in connection with military operations against hostile forces in Vietnam. Gary was very proud to have served his country. He was also able to go on the Freedom Honor Flight in October 2015. Gary was united in marriage to Charlotte Ann Widner at the Westby Coon Prairie Church on December 29, 1972. He worked in the concrete business for over 40 years, from driving truck to dispatching and managing the Westby Ready Mix plant. He enjoyed all the friends that stopped in at the plant to drink coffee and have good conversation. He was always willing to help others when he could, especially if it involved working with many of the tools and machinery in his home garage. He was a huge Packer fan and enjoyed collecting Packer memorabilia. Gary is survived by his wife Charlotte of Avalanche; and 2 sons: Travis of La Crosse, WI and Thomas of Wrightstown, WI. A sister Cindy (Howard) Langhus of Westby and a brother Gordon (Barb) Buros of La Crosse. Brother and sister-in-laws Dale (Eileen) Widner, Randall Widner, Richard (Dianne) Anderson, Iris Hanson, and Wanda Hillblom; and special cousin Lois (Jennings) Bjornstad; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Blaine and Eloise Buros; father and mother-in-law Juan and Shirley Widner; brother-in-laws Roger Hanson and Wayne Hillblom; cousins Richard Bergh and Larry Nustad; and many other family and friends. Gary had a heart of gold and he will be deeply missed. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Friday, January 20, 2016 at the Westby Coon Prairie Church. Pastor Dan Wollman will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby from 3-6 p.m. Friends may also call on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. till the time of service at 11. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials to the family are preferred. Online Condolences may be offered at www.VossFH.com The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
