Gary G. Wubbenhorst, age 55 of Westby, died early on Monday, May 22, 2006 after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Gary was born October 28, 1950 to George and Irene (Guist) Wubbenhorst. He graduated from Kickapoo High School in 1968 and began farming with his father. In the spring of 1980, he purchased the family farm near Readstown. On August 19, 1982, he married Judy Harpestad in New Hampton, Iowa. In September of 1990 they together, purchased Judys home farm near Westby, where they currently reside. Gary truly enjoyed his family and dairy farming. Although, the only cow to have was a Holstein cow, he always said that you need to have at least one blue cow for good luck. After being diagnosed with cancer in December, the birth of his first Grandson, Reagan Alton, or "Papas Pal" lit up his life. Reagan gave him a lot to brag about and the strength to keep going everyday. Gary took great pride in the organizations he represented, especially being a founding director and executive committee member of Foremost Farms, USA. In addition, he was also currently serving on the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. He has served as President of the Vernon Crawford DHIA, Delegate for Accelerated Genetics, and Director for the Viola Horse and Colt Show Board. Gary was also a member of the National, Wisconsin, and Vernon County Holstein Associations, Westby and Kickapoo FFA Alumnis, the Vernon County Dairy Promotion Committee, and considered the Mayor of Coon Prairie by neighbors and friends. Gary is survived by his wife, Judy; children Gail (Robert) Klinkner, Grady and Gregg Wubbenhorst all of Westby,; and Todd (Alyce) Wubbenhorst - Oliver of Hillsboro; grandchildren: Reagan Klinkner, Aymie Oliver, and Barrett Oliver; his mother, Irene Wubbenhorst and his father in law, Leif Harpestad. He was preceded in death by his father, George Wubbenhorst and one daughter, Genna Lynn Wubbenhorst, who died October 6, 1984. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Country Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Westby. Pastor Gary Daines will officiate with burial in the Manning Cemetery, Readstown. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 South Hwy 14 in Westby.
