Gaylord O. Stalsberg, age 79 of DeSoto, died Friday, July 24, 2009. Gaylord Stalsberg age 79 of rural DeSoto, died in his home on Friday, July 24, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. Gaylord was born in Viroqua to Otis and Borghild (Holte) Stalsberg on November 5, 1929. He was raised in Victory by his foster parents Guy and Nancy McDowell. He married Alice McDonald on September 20, 1952. They were blessed with three children. Gaylord worked for the Town of Wheatland for 29 years and is remembered for his dedication to his job. He then worked at Northern Engraving in Lansing, Iowa until retiring.Gaylord is survived by his three children: Duane (Brenda) of De Soto, Edith of La Crosse, and David (Rita) of Stoddard; eight grandchildren: Alyssa, Robin, Jessica, Ryan, Matthew, Jennifer, Jackie (Ben) Abbott, and Julia; and seven great-grandchildren: Amber, Adrianna, Tyquann, Tianna, Trenton, Madison, and Jinea.He is also survived by six sisters: Beatrice Nelson of Viroqua, Ona (Oscar) Heried of Racine, Lois (Roger) Bean of Viroqua, Mary (David) Dottl of Viroqua, Karen Jefson of Georgia, and Donna Caro of Oklahoma; sisters-in-law: Janet Ostoff of Genoa and Caroline Stalsberg of Sparta; long time friend Dale Long, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Gaylord was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents, 4 brothers: Verdell, Myron, Warren, and Kermit, one sister-in-law Alma, and two brothers-in-law: Don Jefson and Winsielee "Bud" Caro.He loved fishing, gardening, and mowing his lawn. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Blessed be his memory. A special thank you goes to the Gundersen Lutheran at Home Hospice for their wonderful care of Gaylord and his family. Friends and family may gather for visitation from 4-6 p.m. Monday at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 320 Main (Hwy 82) in De Soto. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Hope United Methodist Church in Red Mound with Pastor Bill Busch officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Walnut Mound Cemetery in Retreat. Following the burial, there will be a luncheon at the church.The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of DeSoto is serving the family.
