George H. Dinges

Geroge H. Dinges, age 98 of Viroqua, died Sunday, April 27, 2008. George H. Dinges, age 95 of Viroqua and Viola, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Vernon Memorial Hospital. George was born on April 13, 1913 in Milwaukee, WI. He was trained as an engineer at Marquette University inMilwaukee, attending on a track scholarship. He competed extensively in track in the Midwest at the University level. George married Margaret Hansen on September 3, 1938, his life long partner and the couple had three children, George Jr., Thomas and Carol. George worked for 40 years as a Metalurgist at Nordberg Mfg. Company in Milwaukee. After he retired he taught science at MATC in Milwaukee for another ten years. After the death of Margaret, George lived initially in rural Viola fulfilling a dream of his to someday live in the country quietly, surrounded by trees. He continued to pursue his lifetime interest in collecting and expertly restoring antique furniture and reading history. George made many friends in the Viola area and proudly considered himself from Viola. George became ill and suddenly died on April 27, 2008 just two weeks after thoroughly enjoying his 95th birthday party at Fairhaven Assisted Living in Viroqua. George is preceded in death by his beloved wife. He is survived by George Jr. Dinges (Sue) of Springfield, IL; Thomas Dinges (Marianne) of Milwaukee, WI; and Dr. Carol Dinges of Viola, WI; and by eight grandchildren. He is remembered for his wit, charm, brilliant mind and relentless honesty. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Viola United Methodist Church, Viola, WI. Rev. Barbara Miller will officiate with burial in the Viola Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
