George Samuel Phillipps

George Samuel Phillipps, 95, of Westby, Wisconsin died on May 4, 2023, at his home. He was born to Samuel Phillipps and Pearl (Jackman) Phillipps in River Falls, Wisconsin, on January 28, 1928. George was united in marriage to the love of his life, Claudine Stauffacher, on August 19, 1946.

He worked at Gateway Transportation Co., Inc in La Crosse, Wisconsin and Atlanta, Georgia for 34 years. He worked at Schultz Transit in Winona, Minnesota until his retirement. After his retirement he was able to live in many places where he was able to enjoy the beauty of nature and wildlife.

George was the beloved husband of Claudine; loving father of Janny (Joe) DiPaola, Georgeann (Jack) Connaughton, Cathy (Bruce) Running, Joyce (Steve) Running, and Jean (Richard) Antony; devoted grandfather of Stephanie, Stacey, Andrea, Angi, Michelle, Michael, Amy, Rick, and Jaclyn; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Claudine; his parents, Samuel and Pearl; his brother, Earl Phillipps; and his sisters, Shirley (Elmer) Hayes and Leona (Oren) Schorn.

He will be deeply missed for his vast knowledge, wit, and amusing story telling of his life experiences; but most of all his wisdom.

George’s deep faith in Jesus Christ gave him comfort in his passing.
