George Thorson, age 87 of Viroqua, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015. George T. Thorson, age 87 of Viroqua, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Gundersen Medical Center in LaCrosse after a short hospitalization. He was born on July 22, 1928 in Illinois the son of Spencer Taylor Williams and Lenora Thorson. On August 11, 1947 he was united in marriage to Marcy Hodgeman in Pontiac, Illinois. Together they farmed for many years in Illinois and then moved to Wisconsin in 1958 where they continued farming. He also did over the road trucking for many years. George drove bus for VARC in his later years, retiring at age 82. They enjoyed travelling and wintered in Arizona and Florida in their motorhome. George also liked watching the Packer games, but most of all he loved his family and was thankful for all of them. In the fall of 1970 he received Jesus Christ as his Savior and he was a faithful member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Viroqua. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Patty (Jim) Burckhardt of Viroqua, Terry (Kay) Thorson of Ferryville, and Deb (Mark) Walker of Viroqua; eight grandchildren: Michele (Tom) Frydenlund, Sean (Maryann) Burckhardt, Matt (Melissa) Thorson, Luke (Michele) Thorson, Ann (Ryan) ODonnell, Brian (Rose) Walker, Rachel (Travis) Brothen, Alissa (Ben) Baker; 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter Jennifer Burckhardt. Blessed be our memory of George Taylor Thorson. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Viroqua Church of Christ. Pastor Chad Wagner will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church from 1:30 until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be directed to Cornerstone Christian Academy or Lighthouse Baptist Church in Viroqua.
