Gerald Jake Sandry, age 70 of DeSoto, died on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital. Gerald Jake Sandry, age 70 of DeSoto, died on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital. He was born in Lansing, Iowa to Odean and Gladys (Sweeney) Sandry on December 10, 1938. He graduated from Lansing High School in 1957 and served in the US Navy. Jake married Jean Arneson in June of 1964. They lived in DeSoto most of their married life. He worked many years in the DeSoto State Bank and later had Sandrys Appraisal Service. Through the years, Jake served on many community projects. He was Chief of the De Soto Fire Department for 30 years, a first responder, taught hunter safety, a clown with the Firehouse Jesters, a member of the Frontier Badger Masonic Lodge # 45 FAM, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Genoa American Legion. Jake loved hunting, collecting antiques, and compiling the history of De Soto and his family. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons: Karl ( Michelle) of Platteville and John (Jessica) of DeSoto; granddaughter, Jaycee Rae of DeSoto; a brother, James (Cherine) of Davenport, Iowa; a sister, Mary (Dan) Severson of Lansing, Iowa; sisters in law: Jean Sandry of Davenport, Iowa, Marian (Duane) Meier of Lansing Iowa, Betty (Dick) Robertson of DeSoto, Shirley Gillespie of La Crosse, Karen (Bob) Friend of Venice, Florida; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: William and Robert Sandry; one brother-in-law, Richard Arneson. Masonic Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the DeSoto Community Center in DeSoto. Friends may call at the Community Center from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at 6:00 p.m. On line condolences may be offered at www.vosseteigfuneralhomes.com. In Lieu of flowers or plants memorial may be offered to DeSoto Fire Department or Gundersen Lutheran Foundation. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of DeSoto is serving the family.
