Dr. Gerald M Lower Jr, 69, of Bell Center, died Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at his home. Gerald Malcolm Lower, Jr., 69, of Bell Center passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in his home. He was born on April 4, 1945 in Sheboygan, WI and was raised by Jed and Luella Lower in Ontario, WI. Gerald received his doctorate degree from UW-Madison in 1970 with majors in Oncology, Molecular Biology, and Pharmacology. Following graduation he went to work in the field of cancer research. He raised his family in Bell Center, WI as well as Keystone, SD enjoying both for their natural beauty. Dr. Lower wrote and spoke extensively on topics related to science, religion, philosophy, and politics and published a book, Jeffersons Eyes, in 2003. His speaking engagements ranged from the local Unitarian church to the 2ndInternational Symposium of Bioethicsin Kiev, Ukraine. Gerald enjoyed the natural world, exploring the Kickapoo River Valley and the Black Hills with his family, finding wonder all around him for he knew the world is full of magical things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper. He is survived by his sister: Pam Frandy; children: Justin Lower and wife Angela, Bo Bolden and wife Cassie, Kalen Lower, Kelly Brevik and husband Taylor; grandchildren: Sage and Sienna Lower, Keigan, Ivan, and Lexi Bolden, Gavin and Leah Brevik. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jean Lower. A visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, Hwy 131 and Sunset Ridge Rd in Gays Mills, followed by a potluck meal.
