Gertrude Bjerkos

Gertrude Bjerkos, age 86 of Bloomingdale, rural Westby, died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at the Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua. She was born on March 22, 1920 in Dodge, Wisconsin to Albert and Anastasia (Gostkowski) Pellowski. On October 15, 1945, she was united in marriage to Morris Bjerkos and they farmed near Bloomingdale, Wisconsin. Gertrude was a very caring wife and mother. She had a very strong faith and was active in the Catholic church. She is survived by her children: Joe (Francis) of Westby; Mike of Westby; Mary (John) Suddie of Galena, IL; Annie of Huntley, IL; Paul (Sonja) of Westby; and Millie (Ed) Wood of Port St. Lucie, FL. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Lil, Emma, John, Joann, Thomas, Jessica, Ryan, and Reed; her great-grandchildren: Becky, Nicole, Brittany, James, and Jeremy; great-great grandson, Kaydyn; one sister, Mary Ann (Henry) Haines of Winona, MN; one brother, Edward (Alicia) Pellowski of Arcadia, WI; sister-in-law, Arlene Holte of Coon Valley, WI; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Bjerkos on March 11, 1988; her son, Gerald "Butch" Bjerkos on Sept 28, 1999; one grandson, Dick Vian; and her siblings, Helen and Lambert. Blessed be our memory of Gertrude. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Viroqua. Fr. Robert J. Cook will celebrate the Mass with burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, rural Cashton. Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Scripture Wake Service at 6:15 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 South Hwy 14 in Westby.
