Gertrude Hill, 87, of Viola, formerly Sylvan Township, died Saturday evening May 5, 2012. Gertrude Hill, 87, of Viola, formerly Sylvan Township, died Saturday evening May 5, 2012 at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua. Gertrude was born in Richland Center on July 23, 1924 to Clyde and Estella (Renick) Martin. She was united in marriage to Harry Hill in February of 1943. Harry and Gertrude farmed in Sylvan Township from 1956 until retirement. Gertrude loved nature and gardening. She was a very good cook and was especially known for her excellent pies. She was a very loving mother. Gertrude is survived by her daughters Dorothy of Viola and Marilyn Hill of Darlington; sister Bee Gray; sisters-in-law Esther Hill and Beverly Kenworthy; nieces, nephews neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry; brother Dallas Martin and sister Charlotte Martin. Services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Sugar Grove Church of Christ. Pastor Dennis Johnson will officiate with burial in Viola Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 noon. In Lieu of Flowers and Plants, memorial contributions may be made to Vernon Memorial Hospice or the Wisconsin Alzheimers Association. Vosseteig Funeral Homes Henthorn Memorial Center of Viola is serving the family.
