Gertrude W. Abelt

Gertrude W. Abelt, age 93, of the Viola/LaFarge area, died on Sunday, May 17, 2009. Gertrude W. Abelt, age 93, passed away at Vernon Manor in Viroqua, WI on Sunday, May 17, 2009. She was born November 15, 1915 in Willow Township, Richland County to Walter and Hazel (Barnes) Jones. Gertrude married Fred Abelt on December 24, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa. They spent their lives farming until 1984, when they retired. Gertrude was preceded in death by Fred in December, 2005. She will be missed by their three daughters: Bonnie (Harry) Shird of Waukesha, WI, Carolyn (Chris) Burton of Reno, NV and Lorita (Dennis) Hollenbeck of Rockford, IL; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren along with many friends. In addition to Fred and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Leland Jones and her step-father, Mike Foreman. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2009 at noon at the LaFarge Free Methodist Church in LaFarge. Pastor George Shick will officiate. Burial will be in the Viola Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday at the church after 11 a.m. The Vosseteig Funeral Homes Henthorn Memorial Center of Viola is serving the family.
