Gordon was born on October 5, 1919 in Richland Center. His parents were Harvey and Theresa (Sordahl) Schoonover. The Schoonover family moved from Richland Center to Asbury Ridge in rural Viroqua and Gordon farmed the remainder of his life there. He especially enjoyed working with cattle. He was a member of the Westby - Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Gordon is survived by one sister, Donna Schoonover of Viroqua; and many cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille, and one brother-in-law, Lawrence Cox; as well as aunts and uncles.
