Gordon "Tex" Fetty, age 78 of Viroqua, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at his home. Gordon (Tex) Fetty, 78, of Viroqua died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 29, 1929 in Crawford County to parents Clifford and Eva (Smith) Fetty. After graduating from Viroqua High School in 1947 he served in the National Guard for two years. He purchased a garbage truck and had his own route. He attended Leadership Service in 1951 and served as a Sgt(T) in the Army from 1951 to 1953. He served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He married Mae Running in 1953 and they had one son, Kurt in 1955. They resided in Viroqua while Tex worked at the Viroqua Creamery. He owned his own milk route and then became a Field Representative. He later worked for an auto dealership as a salesman. He then worked as an Insurance Adjuster and Manager in both Wisconsin and Arkansas until his semi-retirement. He ran his own insurance business out of his home for a few years. His first wife, Mae passed away in 1991. They were married for 38 years. In 1992 he married Gloria (Gald/Peterson) where they resided in Viroqua. Texs retirement was spent golfing, traveling, winters in Florida, woodworking and time with family and friends. He served as Treasurer for the Methodist Church in Viroqua for many years. He joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and served as an usher. He was an active member of the Eagles 2707, VFW and American Legion. He served on the funeral guard for many funerals and also placed flags on the graves of veterans for over 15 years. He was especially proud of his Hole in One on the Viroqua Golf Course. He was an avid bowler and played in many tournaments including the National Bowling Congress in Reno, Nevada. Every holiday season for the last 14 years Tex enjoyed playing Santa Claus for kindergartners at his home.Gordon is survived by his wife, Gloria (Gald, Peterson) Fetty and his son, Kurt (Lori) Fetty, of Westby, WI; his step-daughters, Vicki (John) Wilson of Reno, Nevada, Ellen (Mike) Knutson of Westby, WI, Carla Cebula and Sarah Peterson of La Crosse, WI; his brothers Lowell (Priscilla) Fetty, Maurice (Sara) Fetty; his sisters, Kathleen (Gib) Holst, Connie Keck; his seven grandchildren Louis and Kyrsten Fetty, Jason and Jessie Rood, Ben, Alex, and Sam Knutson, and one great granddaughter Elizabeth Knutson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Mae. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua with The Revs. Margaret Eiben Hoversten and Lindsay Paul Jordan officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday after 10:00 a.m. Memorials are preferred to the charity of the donors choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
