Gregory M. Dopson

Gregory M. Dopson, age 61, of Viola, passed away Monday, September 7, 2020, at Gundersen Lutheran Health System in La Crosse after a brief illness with lymphoma. He was born February 1, 1959, to Clifford and Iris (Ostrum) Dopson (Hamilton). He was a farmer, a semi-truck driver, and mainly a mechanic with his last job at Homesteader’s in Richland Center. He was united in marriage to Marla Fortun on July 13, 1985. They had two daughters, Marronda “Roni” and Missea. They are “Grampa” and “Gramma” to Raevyn, Daija, Terrio, and Naysion. He has a son Russell “Red” Dopson. Gregory is survived by his wife Marla; his daughters: Roni &Aaron Appleman and Missea & James Strothman; his granddaughters: Metayah, Majesta & Mohnee; son Russell & Kari Dopson and granddaughters Leah & Kailee Dopson; siblings: Suzanne & Scot Keyser, Steven; Kimberly & Greg Severson; Karen & Gary Heried; his father and mother-in-law Martin “Smiley” & Ronda Fortun; sisters and brothers-in-law: Donna Dopson; Marty & Lisa Fortun, Rocky and Amy Fortun & Larry Clark; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends; special friends Rick DeYoung, Rob Bender and Larry Richmond. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford Dopson and Iris & James Hamilton; his sisters: Betty Clark and Barbara & Butch Rutherford; his brothers: Jimmy and Kenny & Jo Ann; his niece Shelly; his nephew Bryden; and his unborn granddaughter Murcei Gladys Glee Strothman. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Sunday, September 13, 2020, at Viola United Methodist Church, 225 N. Washington Street in Viola. Pastor Lorri McGranahan will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Face masks are encouraged. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family appreciated.
