H. Lynn Waddell, age 93 of Beloit, died Sunday, February 24, 2019. H. Lynn Waddell, age 93, of Beloit WI, (Roscoe IL) died Sunday, February 24, 2019. Lynn was born at his home in Webster Township La Farge, WI on May 17, 1925 to Hobart and Josie (Richard) Waddell. He worked on the familys dairy farm until graduating from La Farge High School in 1943. After graduation, Lynn served 3 years in the US Navy during WWII stationed in the South Pacific. As an electrician his duties included maintaining lighting for the piers and rewinding motors. After returning from service Lynn came home and married his high school sweetheart Marvelene (Nicks) Post. They were married by, Rev. Roy Williams on April 26, 1947 in Viroqua, WI. While residing in La Farge they owned the Band Box Cafe for a short time before Lynn started working at the La Farge State Bank (while operating a small radio repair shop from his home). In 1961 they moved to Roscoe, Illinois where they raised four daughters. Lynn and Marvelene opened a Popcorn and Candy shop in Beloit, WI from 1961-1962 until he was later employed by Woodward Governor Company in Loves Park, Illinois for the next 25 years. Lynn took pleasure in going to flea markets, collecting antiques, and working on short wave radios. In addition, he had a love for music, which included trips to Branson, MO, Nashville, TN and Dollywood with his daughter Lana. He enjoyed listening to country/bluegrass songs and collected many instruments and electronics. He made recording reels from asking his daughter Tonia to sing and play so he could use his collection of recording equipment. Lynn could play the guitar, piano, and banjo, and loved showing off the five string banjo that he made. Even in his 90's Lynn completed making a guitar with his daughter Tamra. During Lynn's later years, he spent time visiting his daughter Cheri at the family homestead during La Farge's Fourth of July celebrations and seeing past school classmates at the school reunions. Lynn was preceded in death by; his wife of 52 years Marvelene, his brother Theron Waddell, a sister Colleen Wheeler, and great-granddaughter Gabriella Larson. Lynn is survived by; his four daughters Cheri Waddell (Mike Hernden) of La Farge WI, Tamra (Kevin, USAF Major Retired) Loy of Brookfield WI, Lana (Steve) Wikel of Cottage Grove WI and Tonia (Joe) Squires of Clinton WI, his 16 grandchildren including Tahra, Seth, Ryan, Jordan, Noah, Nicholas, Aaron, Ian, Chelsea, Logan, Dylan, Leah, Elayne, Lucas, Alexandra, Raquel, and 12 great-grandchildren, his two nephews Kelly Wheeler and Kevin Wheeler, and niece Lori (David) Wood, he is also survived by a special friend Wilma Bostok of Beloit, WI. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the La Farge Free Methodist Church. Full Military Honors will follow the service and burial will take place in the Star Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects during a visitation from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
