Harold L. Phillips

Harold L. Phillips, age 71, of Westby passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. He was born on September 3, 1951, to the late Lester Phillips and Ann Welker. Harold enlisted into the United States Army and was later honorably discharged and moved to Rockford, Illinois. While living in Rockford, Harold met the love of his life, Carol Lee and they later married on September 25, 1971.

Harold worked many jobs, but the two that were the closest to his heart was his position as a Nurse’s Assistant at the VA Hospital in Arkansas and the last nine years he’s spent as a cab driver for Public Transit in Viroqua and Westby.

He had a great passion for 60’s music or also known as the “golden oldies” and comedy movies. Harold’s family was also a very important part in his life.

Harold is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol Phillips; his children: Gina Miller, Craig (Nikki) Phillips, Tony Phillips, David (Veronica) Phillips, and Dawn (Joe) Steinmentz; grandchildren: Zachary Broadhead, Angela Broadhead, Miranda Steinmentz, Cole Phillips, and Kambri Phillips; his brother, Leonard “George” Phillips; two half-brothers, Kenny and Mike Welker; and many nieces, nephews, and his special dog companion, Micky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Phillips and Ann Welker; his sister, Judy Lee and Sandy Mc Clurg; and his step siblings, Richard Welker and Ruth Welker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are appreciated.

Harold’s family would like to sincerely thank the Staff at Vernon Memorial Hospital, the Westby Police Department and Shea Bjerkos, the Westby EMS, and Vosseteig Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby. Pastor George Shick will officiate. A visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Harold will be laid to rest at the Westby Coon Prairie Cemetery with full military honors. The family will be having a lunch at their home after the burial at 210 High Echo Lane in Westby.
