Harriet Aspenson Delap

VIROQUA, WI Harriet Aspenson DeLap, age 96, died June 30, 2016 at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua. Harriet Aspenson DeLap, 96, of Viroqua, died Thursday, June 30, 2016. She was born on April 29, 1920 to Glen and Edith (Thompson) Mullen. After graduating from Viroqua High School Harriet attended the Minnesota School of Business. She moved back to Viroqua and began working at First National Bank where she met Eldar Aspenson. They were united in marriage on January 2, 1943. Harriet went to work at the Ration Board and the Work Project Administration in Macomb County Michigan where Eldar was stationed during WWII. They returned to Viroqua where they raised their family and Harriet worked at the McIntosh Memorial Library and DeLap Oil and Gas Company. After the death of Eldar in 1989, Harriet married Bernard "Bunny" DeLap on December 27, 1997. Harriet was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a part of the WELCA and Martha Circle, the Legion Aux., and the Lionettes. Her hobbies include her card club, sewing club, reading books, and her love of marching bands. Harriet is survived by her son, Clair (Sharon) Aspenson; two daughters: Rachel (James) Balow, and Ellen Aspenson (Patrick McGowan); five grandchildren: Dawn (Stephen) Zanoni, Amy (Richard) Ruvin, Brenda (Ryan) Gallup, Aaron (Angela) Balow, and Todd Balow; eight great grandchildren: Nathan, Joshua, Zachary, Jordan, Alicia, Samantha, Aspen, and Adelynn; and a very dear sister, Alice Dunifer of Iowa City, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her family she grew to love: Mary (Paul) Sandstrom, Jim (Paula) DeLap, John (Sara) DeLap, Shelley (David) Adel; their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Eldar Aspenson and Bunny DeLap; her parents; and a brother, Harold Mullen. Funeral Services will be held at 12 pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10am till the time of service at 12. In lieu of plant or flowers, memorials may be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Vernon Memorial Hospice.
