Harriet Lucille Swangstu

Harriet Lucille (Hanson) Swangstu, age 93, died peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at her apartment at Maplewood Terrace in Viroqua. She was born June 10, 1930, to Harry and Lillian Hanson and graduated from Seneca High School. Harriet married Norvin Swangstu on November 24, 1951. She worked at Ferryville Bank and Mt. Sterling School as well as being the custodian for Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church until her retirement. Harriet and Norvin enjoyed square dancing, gardening, camping, and traveling.

Harriet is survived by her children, Dennis of Lake Geneva and Jane Wright of Viroqua; brothers, Howard (Helen) Hanson and Donnie Hanson; sister, Lorna (Fritz) Perkins; daughter-in-law, Becky Swangstu; sister-in-law, Ardis Hill; grandchildren: Sarah (Sean) Harrigan, Zachery (Gio) Swangstu, Cody Howell, and Crystal Wright; great-grandchild, Bailey Howell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norvin; parents, Harry and Lillian Hanson; parents-in-law, Neely and Pearl Swangstu; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Hanson.

In lieu of flower, memorials may be made to St. Croix Hospice or Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church in Harriet’s memory.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church in Mt. Sterling. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Harriet will be laid to rest at the church cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the church.
