Helen Luella Running Phillipps, 92 of Westby, Elmhurst, IL and La Crosse, died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. Helen Luella Running Phillipps, 92 of Westby, Elmhurst, IL and La Crosse, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. Born in Westby, September 14, 1920, she is the daughter of Rudolph and Minnie Jaeger. Helen graduated from Westby High School on May 28, 1937. She married Stanley Running on May 20, 1939 and together they farmed on Lovaas Ridge Road until Stanley's death in 1976. She married Earl Phillipps on July 27, 1978. As well as being a partner on the farm, Helen served as the Clerk of the Town of Christiana and worked for H and R Block. She volunteered in La Crosse, helping senior citizens with income taxes and serving meals at senior sites, as well as volunteering in an elementary school while in Elmhurst. Helen was a longtime member of the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, active in Ladies Aid and a ladies church circle. Helen enjoyed the time she spent traveling. She was well known for the delicious food from her kitchen such as Norwegian lefse and rosettes, apple pie, donuts and homemade bread. Helen is survived by four sons, David (Rita) Running, Green Bay, Bruce (Cathy) Running, Eau Claire, Brian (Sue) Running, Eagan, MN and Steven (Joyce) Running, Westby; nine grandchildren, Nicole DeMeuse, Kari DePauw, Amy Axness, Michelle Running, Corey Running, Kirk Running, Kelly Stokes, Stephanie Running and Michael Running; 13 great grandchildren, Addison, Piper, Abigail, Ryan, Molly, Tyler, Chloe, Lucas, Payton, Elle, Kendall, Lily and Brenna. Helen is further survived by a brother, Roger (Pat) Jaeger, Westby; and by other relatives and friends. Her family will remember her as a very caring person. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, Stanley and Earl; a brother, Earl Jaeger; sisters, Ruth Larson, Irene Munson and Ida Mae Peterson; sister in law, Elaine Jaeger; brothers-in-law, Harold Munson, Roy Larson and Warren Peterson. Blessed be our memory of Helen. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St. (hwy 14 S.) in Westby. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be given to the Coon Prairie Cemetery Association. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is assisting the family.
