Henry Hayden,86, of Westby died at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse on Saturday, August 3, 2013. Henry (Hank) Hayden, 86, of Westby died unexpectedly at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse on Saturday, August 3, 2013. Hank was born and raised in Retreat, Wisconsin on November 5, 1926 to George and Mary (Welch) Hayden. He graduated from Lansing High School in 1945 and then served in the U.S. Army and Air Force for over 6 years. On February 1, 1960 he was united in marriage to Donna Robbins. Hank barbered in shops located in Dodgeville, Middleton, Sullivan, Jefferson, and Westby. After the closing of the Westby shop, he continued to barber for friends and family at homes and nursing homes throughout the area. Hank then worked for the Westby School District as a custodian and retired in May of 1999. He was an active member of A.A. and recently celebrated 38 years of sobriety. Hank is survived by his five children, Michael (Gaylyn) of Oxnard, CA, Steven (Lori) of Westby, Frederick (Yong Cha) of Lacey, WA, Heidi of Westby and Sarah (Matthew) of Madison. His grandchildren April, Melissa, Jennifer, Matthew, Timothy, Henry and great-grandchildren: Aiden, Ashton, Gavin and Lila. He is also survived by a brother Richard (Bea) Hayden of McFarland, WI. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna on November 1, 2012, his parents, his sisters Edith Cole and Dorothy Herald; his granddaughter Katherine, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Westby United Methodist Church. Pastor George Shick will officiate with burial to follow in Walnut Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 3 on Sunday at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Main, in Westby. Friends may also call on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial contributions may be made to Hanks passions of the Westby United Methodist Church or to the Bethel Buttik. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
