Herman A. Springborn, age 96 of DeSoto, died Thursday, February 18, 2010. Herman Andrew Springborn, age 96 of DeSoto, died on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. He was born May 2, 1913 in Chicago, Ill., Cook Co., son of John Carl and Sena Marie (Hanson) Springborn. His parents came to Wisconsin when Herman was about 6 months old. They moved to Sugar Grove in Vernon County. Herman attended school at Sugar Grove. He was the oldest of four children, his brother, John William, Jr. "Johnny", Sadie Hastings and Myrtle Davenport. They later moved to La Crosse and then Victory. Herman married Esther Alvira Warren on November 5, 1932 in Vernon County. To this marriage were born eight children: Margaret."Marge" Geddes, Joyce Sutton, Marvin, Eloda Bohland, Harlen, Roger, Loren and Allen. Herman drove truck for many years, which included hauling stock cattle to Milwaukee and Chicago packing companies. He had moved houses, silos and one house that he moved from Victory to Red Mound was the family home for many years. On May 1, 1951 he bought a farm on County UU at Red Mound. When they retired in 1980 they had a new house built in Red Mound. That was Hermans home until he went to the nursing home in 2003. His wife, Esther passed away on April 5, 1985. On April 23, 1986 Herman married Eva Ross. Herman is survived by his children: Marvin (Alice) Springborn, Eloda (Miles) Bohland, Harlen Springborn, Roger (Valerie) Springborn, Loren (Marlene) Springborn, Marge Geddes, Joyce (Harry) Sutton and Allen (Margaret) Springborn; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wifes: Esther and Eva; three siblings: John Jr., Sadie Hastings and Myrtle Davenport; son-in-law, Donald Geddes; five grandchildren: Wesley Bohland, Shannon Rae Springborn, Zachary Springborn, David John Springborn and Dennis Sutton. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at New Hope United Methodist Church, rural DeSoto. Pastor Bill Busch will officiate with burial in the Walnut Mound Cemetery at Retreat. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 320 Main Street in DeSoto. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
