Hope Eileen Brooks, age 82 of Viroqua, died Friday October 14, 2005 Hope Eileen Brooks, age 82 of Viroqua, died Friday October 14, 2005 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. Hope was born June 11, 1923 in Viroqua Township to Herman and Alna (Favor) Friedell. She attended rural Cherry Grove Elementary School and graduated Magna cum Laude from Viroqua High School in 1940. Following graduation she was employed in the office of the J.C. Penney store in Viroqua. In December 1945 she married Harley Brooks and in 1947 the couple was transferred to Black River Fall by Harleys employer, Mobil Oil Company. During the six years that they lived in Black River Falls, their two children were born and Hope worked part time at Moes Shoes. In 1953 they were transferred to Decorah, Iowa, where they lived for six years before being transferred to Milwaukee and making their home in Oconomowoc. Hope worked at Rays Shoes in Oconomowoc until their transfer to Dallas, Texas in 1974 where they resided in the nearby suburb of Garland, Texas. In 1981 they retired and returned to Viroqua the following year. Hope was a current member of the Viroqua United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Harley of Viroqua, her daughter, Nancy (John) Gausepohl of Sanderson, Texas, her son, Steven (Abby) Brooks of Waukesha and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Gus Bongers and her nephew, Bruce Bongers
