Howard J. Holen, 92, of Westby, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at his home. Howard Jerrold Holen, 92, of Westby, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at his home. Howard was born on July 25, 1922 to Oscar and Marie (Hanson) Holen in Westby. Howard joined the Army on November 7, 1941. He was career military for 20 years and served in World War II and in the Korean War. After retiring from the Army Howard went on to work as a draftsman for the State Highways for 20 years before retiring in 1984. Howard married his wife Helen Jane Erickson on February 21, 1952. Howard is survived by his wife; their two children: Michael Holen, of San Antonio TX, and Ronald Holen, of Caledonia MN; two grandchildren: Gregory and Ross Holen; five great grandchildren: Alexandra, Anthony, Antionette, Carmen, and K.C.; one great great grandson, Joseph Canchez; three brothers: Raymond, Alton, and Dennis Holen; two sisters: Margaret (Charles) Guy and Marilyn (Leland) Ekum; and sister-in-law, Florence Holen. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Norman and Orbin Holen. Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Pastor Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate with Military Honors to follow. Friends may call at the church from 10 A.M. till the time of service at 11. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
