Irene M. Nedland, age 89 of Viroqua, died Thursday, January 27, 2011. Irene M. Nedland, age 89 of Viroqua, died Thursday, January 27, 2011. She was born on November 22, 1921 to Aberham and Anna (Anderson) Nelson On November 22, 1951 she was united in marriage to Floyd Nedland. Irene was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, the Rebecca Circle and the WELCA. She enjoyed living on the farm where she milked cows and raised chickens. She took pleasure in flowers and indoor plants, sewing, watching birds and entertaining people as well as sharing coffee with friends and relatives and baking cake for her son. Irene was proud of her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed attending Syttende Mai and baking Norwegian pastries. She is survived by one son, Wayne (Becky) Nedland of Viroqua; six grandchildren: Brent (Chelsey) Nedland, Trisha (Ryan) Peterson, Lance Nedland, Eric Nedland, Emily Nedland and Ryan Nedland; six great-grandchildren: Isabella, Olivia and Devin Nedland, Evan and Caleb Peterson, and Gavin Nedland; daughter-in-law, Debra Nedland; one sister, Allene (Alvin) Christianson; sister-in-law, Norma Nelson; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Blayne G. Nedland, her husband, Floyd who died on August 7, 2010; sister, Mildred Swenson and brother, Alvin W. Nelson.Blessed be our memory of Irene Nedland. Due to the fire at Bethel Lutheran Church, funeral services for Irene will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor Kris Fahey will officiate with burial in the Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call on Sunday after 12 noon at the church. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
