Irene Marie Theresa Reinstra

Irene Reinstra, age 91, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

She was born on December 15, 1933, to Alfred and Angel Bernier. After attending school in Putnam, CT, Irene worked at the local button factory to help support her family. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Reinstra on April 24, 1954, in Putnam, CT.

The couple lived on the Naval base in Corpus Christi, TX, before moving to La Crosse, WI, where Robert worked at the post office while Irene stayed home to raise their children. They later settled in Westby. A devoted homemaker and faithful church member, Irene also enjoyed camping and motorcycle rides. In retirement, she and Robert spent winters in Arizona, and she took up painting. After Robert’s passing, Irene moved to Viroqua, where she found joy in her time spent with her great-grandchildren and her church family.

Irene is survived by her children, Bob (Kelli) Reinstra and Pam (Loren) Knoble; her grandchildren, Jessica Gander, Kelly Ryan, Darcy Ewing, Sam Ryan, Aubrey Ryan, Megan Thornton, and Hunter Reinstra; great-grandchildren, Ashlee Gander, Morgan Gander, Owen Gander, River Thornton, and Ava Thornton. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Roy Howell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert E. Reinstra; her daughter, Teri Howell; and her siblings, Claire, Madeline, Agnes, Gertrude, Rita, Joe, Renee, Paul, and Francis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 400 Congress Avenue, Viroqua, with Father Joe Richards officiating. A wake will be held from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Irene will be laid to rest in the Fancy Creek Cemetery in Gillingham.
