Irma D. Gilman, age 86 of LaFarge, died Saturday February 8, 2020. Irma Gilman, age 86, of La Farge passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua, surrounded by her family. Irma was born in Vernon County, Wisconsin on April 20, 1933 to William and Almeda (Parker) Steinmetz.. She graduated from Hillsboro High School, Class of 1950. On July 9, 1954 Irma was united in marriage to William (Bill) Gilman in Junction City, Kansas. She was a military wife while Bill served in the Army, starting their family in Kansas. They moved back to La Farge in 1960 and most of their working life they spent as owners of Harvey's Market and later Village Market. In retirement, Irma enjoyed doing genealogy research as well as playing dominoes and dice games with Bill. She also loved playing computer games. Irma is survived by, her husband, Bill; two daughters, Debra Korus of La Farge and Gail (Michael) Semb of La Crosse; four grandchildren, Jeffery (Elizabeth) Korus, Jasmine Korus, Collin Semb and Connor Semb; great-grandson, William Korus, and a great-grandchild due in March. Irma is further survived by, her sister Bernadine Appleman; also a sister-in-law Joan Steinmetz. Preceding Irma in death are her parents, infant twin sons David and Dean (December, 1954), sister Marjorie Rice and brother Walter Steinmetz. Per her wishes, there will be no funeral service. Private burial will take place at Bear Creek Cemetery in La Farge. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorial should be directed to the LaFarge Ambulance Service in Irmas name.
