Irven Bean

Irven Bean, 99, DeSoto, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua, WI. He was born on January 10, 1907 in Rush Creek, Ferryville, WI to Aleck and Ida (Sorenson) Bean. He was united in marriage to Marie Brudos on June 24, 1939. He worked in road construction, farmed, and as a patrolman for Freeman Township in Crawford County. In 1953, Irven accepted the position of lead custodian and maintenance person at the newly constructed DeSoto High School and worked there until his retirement in the mid seventies. During much of this time he was also the custodian for the DeSoto Lutheran Church, duties he continued well after his retirement from the high school. Marie and Irven lived in DeSoto until moving to Maplewood Terrace (Viroqua) in September 2001. Irven moved to the Bethel Home in March 2004. He is survived by his wife Marie, a son Roger (Mary Jane) Bean of New Lisbon, WI and a daughter Marilyn (Roger) Oliver of Port Byron, IL; eight grandchildren: Douglas Bean and fianc Lauren Pratski of Cottage Grove, WI; Denise Bean and fianc Rob LaRosa of Gillespie, IL; Dru Bell of Stoughton, WI; Nathan (Nichole) Oliver of Ely, Cambridgeshire, England; Kristen (Matthew) Reece of Davenport, IA; Jody (Jody) Grossman of Cottage Grove, WI; Lori Esser of Oak Lawn, IL; and Lee (Carrie) Esser of Fairbanks, AK; and six great grandchildren: Anthony Bell, Ashlee Bean, Aleck Reece, Rhaena Reece, Sydney Grossman, and Haley Grossman. A brother-in-law Archie Brudos and two sisters-in-law Norma Olson and Eleanor Lee and several nieces and nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Frank; and sisters Annie Knutson, Pearl Bolster, Bessie Fortun, and Gladys Robson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Pastor Libby Howe will officiate with burial in the DeSoto Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the DeSoto Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Bethel Home Foundation. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of DeSoto is serving the family.
