Irvin Goplin, 90, of Westby, died Friday, May 22, 2015. Irvin Bernard Goplin, age 90 of Westby, died Friday, May 22, 2015. He was born on January 2, 1925 in the town of Clinton, Vernon County, WI to Ingvald and Borghild (Myhre) Goplin. He was baptized on the home farm by Rev. J.O. Holum. At the age of two months he went to live with his grandparents. He attended parochial school, Sunday school, and was confirmed in the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church. He also attended Linrud School then went on to the Westby High School for a few years. He quit school and moved to LaCrosse where he lived with his aunt and uncle. He got a job at the Allis Chalmers factory in LaCrosse and worked there until the factory closed. He then moved to Janesville and worked at the Chevrolet plant for a time. He moved back to the farm on Poplar Coulee Ridge in the Spring of 1959. On June 13, 1970 he married Betty Stilwell at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Stoddard and the couple farmed until they moved to Coon Valley. Betty died on November 21, 2002. Irvin was a lifelong member of Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. He liked to have a garden, raise flowers, and enjoyed old time violin music. Irvin lead a plain and simple life. He is survived by a step daughter, Verona Lachman; three step grandchildren: Tina (Travis) Scharmach, Nicole (Jay) Reinan, and Jeff (Leah) Lachman; two sisters in law, Darlene (Don) Zink, and Joyce Stilwell; brother in law, Harlan Stilwell; one nephew, David (Deb) Zink and one niece, Dawn (Dean) Nerison; special friends: Rick and Barb Mikshowsky; and many special cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, one brother Clarence; one sister Bertha; brother in law, Gerald Stilwell; and uncles, aunts and cousins. Blessed be our memory of Irvin Bernard Goplin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Country Coon Prairie Lutheran in Westby. Pastors Dan and Julie Wollman will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemtery. Friends may call at the church after 1p.m. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given to the Norseland Nursing Home, the Westby Coon Prairie Church, or the Bothne House.
