Jacob Vedvik, age 95 of Utica / Mt. Sterling, died Sunday February 2, 2020 at Vernon Memorial Hospital. Jacob was born May 17, 1924 in Seneca, WI to Jacob and Agnes (Anderson) Vedvik Sr. Jacobs birthday bought him great joy to be a Norwegian born on Syttende Mai. He loved traveling back and forth many times to Norway; once adding he thought he had more friends there. While attending UW Madison Jacob earned a MS in agriculture, which he used throughout his teaching career. He loved farming and teaching and teaching farming at first at LaFarge High School. for 5 years or so; then teaching Mathematics at Seneca High School until retiring. Jacob married the love of his life, Arvalene Maxine Skrede on June 8, 1968. Jacob loved anything having to do with genealogical history. He has been sought out for years as the foremost local authority (the go to expert) for local historical facts. He was a member of Sons of Norway and Nordfjord Laget. He was a member of the Crawford Co. Historical Society. Jacob and other society members organized the Hauge Church Foundation and were instrumental in placing the church on the State Registry of Historical Landmarks in Wisconsin. Jacob is survived by his sister-in-law, Meredith Vedvik; his nieces and nephews, Teri (John) Swanson, Randy (Janet) Vedvik, Harold Vedvik, Robert (Janet) Roemer and Mark Roemer; great nieces and nephews, Adrian (Joann) Swanson, John (Lacey) Swanson, Breanne (Jesse) Groom, Richard (Beth) Vedvik, Robynn (Alan) Messerly, Michael Roemer and Christopher Connelly; as well as great-great- nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives. Preceding Jacob in death were his wife, Arvalene; his parents; his sister and brother, Margaret Roemer and Harold Vedvik; also his niece, Marcia (Roemer) Connelly. Funeral Services for Jacob will be Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 12:00 noon at the Utica Lutheran Church State Hwy 27 (North of Mount Sterling). Pastor Nile Sandeen will officiate with burial to follow in the Utica Church Cemetery. Friends may call during a visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers or plants memorials are preferred and may be offered to the Crawford Co. Historical Society.
