James Berg

James Berg, born November 29, 1951, in Viroqua, Wisconsin, lived his entire life there in the family home until his peaceful death Monday, August 28, 2023. A gentle and kind soul, James spent his early years working in his father’s many businesses (painting, roofing, tiling) until his father, Martin Berg, Sr.’s death in 1984, and then James became his mother Dorothy’s constant companion until her death in 2003. He enjoyed woodcarving, painting, and movies, and was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

James was further preceded in death by his brother, Martin.

Survivors include his nephews, Nicholas Berg (Chicago) and Max Berg (Minneapolis); his niece, Auden O’Connell (Minneapolis); and the many friendly people who knew him by sight or conversation in Viroqua.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Viroqua. Fr. Joe Richards will officiate. Jim will be laid to rest at The Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
