James Earl Theige, age 63 of Viroqua, died Saturday, November 4, 2006 at his home. He was born on February 17, 1943 in Viroqua to Earl and Lucille (Jacobson) Theige. Jim had served in the Navy at the time of the Bay of Pigs Invasion. During this time, he worked with metal and developed a keen ability for fabrication. He was united in marriage to Marne Berg on March 14, 1964 in Westby. Jim was a farmer and possessed the "Theige gift for carpentry": He could fix anything. He had an extreme love of horses, enjoyed tractors and judged mule shows at the county fair. In addition to his wife and best friend, Marne, Jim is survived by his two daughters: Teena (Dan) Olson and Trena Theige (Kelly Helgeson); four grandchildren: Tana Marie Olson, Gavin James Olson, Alex Jason Helgeson and Arik Earl Helgeson; his mother, Lucille Theige of Viroqua; one sister, Sharon (David) Kammel of Madison; brother-in-law, Alan (Sue) Berg; sister-in-law, JoAnn (Dan) Volden; nine nephews and nieces: Carey Kammel, Matt Kammel, Leah Kammel, Torgor (Lora) Volden, Stacey (Bill) Hannah, Andrew Berg, Aaron Berg, Phoebe (Shawn) Engh, and Bjorn Berg; many other relatives, friends and his dogs. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl on June 9, 1994; and his mother and father-in-law: Carol and Edwin Berg. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Country Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Westby. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
