James H Hudson Jr., 86, of Viroqua, died Monday, October 13, 2014. James Harlan Hudson was born on September 25, 1928 to James Harlan and Helen (Daly) Hudson. Jim attended York High School in Elmhurst, IL. and graduated in 1946. He was drafted and went into the Signal Corps in 1950 for 2 years in which he was sent to Japan. James attended Elmhurst College and Wheaton College and graduated from Elmhurst College. James married Ann Nickerson, a graduate of Peabody College in Nashville, TN. Jim and Ann had 2 children, Wayne Arthur and Amy Lee (Gary Kessnick). Wayne lives in Madison, WI. Jim sold pharmaceuticals for a number of years before moving to Wisconsin where he became the CEO of Richland Center Hospital. Jim was an avid reader and a pilot. He owned a cub cadet plane in which he gave rides to his many friends in the surrounding Richland Center and Viroqua areas. The Hudsons moved to Viroqua where he became CEO of the Viroqua Hospital and retired there in the early 2000s. Upon retirement he was active in the community. Jim was a member of the Viroqua United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and was also responsible for the repainting of all the Sunday school walls in the church. He was an active member of the Vernon County Historical Society for many years and served as president of the organization. Jim was a veteran of the Korean War, serving Japan in the Signal Corp, a member of the McIntosh Memorial Library board, a member of the Viroqua Flyers club, a member of the Vernon County Humane society, and was a member of the Masons. He resided at Bethel Home from June 2013 till the time of his death. Jim is survived by his wife, Ann; son, Wayne; and daughter, Amy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers. Funeral Services will be held at the Viroqua United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11 am. Pastor Jean Waldron will officiate.
