James I. Dahlen

March 30, 1921 — April 7, 2006

James I. Dahlen, age 85 of rural Cashton, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2006 at the Norseland Nursing Home. James was born on March 30, 1921 in Vernon Co. to Joseph and Ida (Hentschel) Dahlen. James served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received two bronze stars. On May 18, 1946 James married Edna L. Gilbeck and together they farmed the Dahlen family farm. Jim Also drove school bus for 26 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his children and was a life-long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church (Moen), rural Cashton where he was baptized on May 1, 1921 and confirmed on December 15, 1935. Jim was a member of the Cashton V.F.W. Post. In addition to his wife of almost 60 years, Edna, he is survived by three children: Janice (Kerry) Saunders of LaCrosse, Curtis Dahlen of rural Cashton, and Rodney (Kathy) Dahlen of Stoughton; two grandchildren: Kyle and Abby Dahlen of Stoughton; two sisters: Eva Struxness and Ruth Hoff; eight sisters-in-law: Joan Dahlen and Evelyn Dahlen, and Elsie Gilbeck, Alice Amundson, Beverly Gilbeck, Hilda Gilbeck, Helen Gilbeck and Bertha Gilbeck; two brothers-in-law: Virgil Gilbeck and Elmer Amundson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Norman, Art and Ralph; one sister-in-law, Myrtle Dahlen; six brothers-in-law, Stanley Struxness and Luell Hoff, and Lloyd, Chester, Raymond, and Clarence Gilbeck; and one nephew, Lonie Dahlen. Blessed be his memory. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Cashton with Pastor Jason Stanton officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday after 12:30 p.m. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
