James Norman Peterson, 73, of Viroqua passed away on December 5th, 2012 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. James was born on October 1st, 1939 in Rising Sun, WI to Rudalph and Lillian (Tollefson) Peterson. He married Janice E. Johnson on May 25th, 1964. Together, they had six children, including two sets of twins. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1959. He worked at both Viroqua movie theaters while young, in addition to time spent with his brother at the old pool hall on Court St. He worked for National Cash Register for over 20 years until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, in addition to climbing most of the hills of Vernon County in search of morel mushrooms and ginseng. He enjoyed watching and cussing the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Chicago Cubs through their years of ups and downs. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gerald (Jerry) Peterson; and one son, Kurt Peterson. He is survived by his wife, Janice Peterson of Viroqua; three sons, Jeffrey (Lissa) Peterson of Aurora, CO; Kent Peterson of La Crosse, WI; and Stephen (Shelly) Peterson of Colorado Springs, CO; two daughters, Stephanie Knoble of Tony, WI; Julie (Will) Quartrone of Raleigh, NC; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home123 W. Decker Street (Hwy 56) in Viroqua on Thursday, December 20th at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until time of service at l:00 p.m. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
