James Lee Sorum

James Lee Sorum of Soldiers Grove, WI, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on May 15, 1947, to Robert and Mildred (McDaniel) Sorum.

Jim was a member of the final graduating class of Soldiers Grove High School in 1965. He went on to attend Madison Technical College, earning an Associate’s Degree. He lived in Middleton for several years before moving to Cross Plains in 1978, and eventually returned to his hometown of Soldiers Grove in 1998. He was united in marriage to Kathy George on July 27, 1968.

He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and camping. If you did ever see him indoors, he was watching the Wisconsin Badgers, Packers or taking in a western. Professionally, Jim worked as an office equipment technician for IKON Office. Upon returning to Soldiers Grove, Jim founded Kickapoo Log Cabins and worked in lawn care and food plots, working alongside his son for many years.

Jim is survived by his children, Michele Sorum and Jason (fiancee, Abby Soyka) Sorum; grandchildren, Zachary Schmid and Jordyn Schmid; his nieces and nephews, Kristin Sorum, Dustin Sorum, Tyler Sorum, and Caylea Sorum; and many great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Kathy Sorum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred Sorum; his brother, Jerry Sorum; and his nephew, Jeremy Sorum.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 303 Church St, Soldiers Grove, with Pastor Michele Engh officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Sime Funeral Home. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
